Citadel Floor Finishing Systems
Blaine, MN
This bathroom started out as your average run of the mill lavatory with sheetrock walls and tile floors that had deteriorated over the years due to heavy usage by construction workers. The walls had stains that even multiple coats of paint could not cover and the grout lines in the tile had become un-cleanable and chalky. It required a weekly maintenance program to keep it usable and up to health standards.
The solution to the problem was installing Citadel Floor Finishing System’s Polyurea coatings on both the walls and the floor. The 98% solids Polyurea coating was applied directly over the painted sheetrock and one wall was masked off to create individual tiles. Each of these tiles was treated with a different blend of color chips to mimic the look of natural slate. A clear coat of 100% solids Polyaspartic Polyurea was installed to seal the system and provide exceptional chemical resistance. After extensive cleaning involving grinding of the tiles and chemical treatments of the grout lines, a self leveling coat of 98% solids Polyurea was installed to flatten out the floor and “bury” the texture of the grout lines. A decorative chip broadcast system was installed to match the style of the wall coating and the same 100% solids Polyaspartic Polyurea was used to seal the floor.
This coating system was installed during regular business hours while other people were working in the general vicinity. This is possible due to the high solids content of CFFS materials and the complete lack of odor during application. The installation took 1.5 days to complete with two certified installers and was returned to service the next day. Because the floor and wall system are now seamless and there are no grout lines to collect dirt and grime, the maintenance program has been all but eliminated. A simple wipe-down of the coated surfaces with a bleach-based cleaner keeps the entire room sanitary and open for business. This is just one of the many applications that CFFS Polyureas can turn back the hands of time and completely rejuvenate a once dilapidated space.
